“Teach me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” — Psalm 139:23-24
Today we take time to pause and enter into self reflection. We do not do this alone, but seek God’s Spirit to guide us into the deep corners of the heart, asking Him to search us, test us, to know us.
We turn our attention to Psalm 139 as our prayer for today. Our temptation may be to read it and study it – try to gain from the text a holy nugget of truth. This is good for bible study and beneficial for discussions, but this is not the goal today. Today we want the text to read us. So treat each line as a prayer. Go through it, verse by verse, taking time to pause after each and allow the Spirit to guide you deeper into the reality of God.
*If thoughts try to distract you in the midst of this process, keep a pen and paper near by so that you can write those thoughts down and return to them after the prayer. Once you’ve written them down feel the freedom to leave them on the page and return to Psalm 139.
